Four European universities create master's degree in Applied Ecohydrology
With an innovative character, recognized by the European Union and the Erasmus Mundus program, MAEH-EM seeks to find and implement natural-based solutions, harmonized with engineering solutions, when necessary, in order to ensure the quality of aquatic ecosystems, promoting management sustainable use.
MAEH-EM graduates will benefit from a holistic view and the technical knowledge needed to solve the complex and multifactorial problems of water security and the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems, now and in the future.
The program of this master's degree also merges the skills and expertise of four European universities and cooperates closely with experts, companies and UNESCO institutions with high knowledge in water science.
For Luís Chícharo, coordinator of this master's degree, “MAEH-EM is of paramount importance because it contributes to the training of professionals who, based on in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge about aquatic systems, will develop, implement and manage solutions based on in nature, protecting the quality of aquatic ecosystems and ensuring the balance and sustainability of uses for society and ecosystems ”. However, he explains, “the importance of the MAEH's global contribution was recognized by the European Union's Erasmus Mundus program and has the support of UNESCO's Ecohydrology Program. In addition, "the MAEH-EM responds to several of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals".
