New Master in Marine, Biodiversity, Fisheries and Conservation
Geared towards the promotion of lifelong learning, this master's degree is born from the need to promote in the labour market professionals with knowledge and technical skills in areas related to the management of the marine and coastal environment and the use of scientific information, which will ensure sustainable development and the conservation of species and habitats, benefiting humanity and the balance of ecosystems.
This course, taught in English, includes a professional internship that may be developed in the students' employers or in other institutions appropriate to the objectives of the professional training. The teaching part of the course will be practical and very focused on the needs of the labour market, on the valorisation of available information on marine and coastal biodiversity and on obtaining new data that allows establishing baselines and evaluating their evolution, in support of scientifically based decision making to ensure the sustainable management of the coast and the marine environment.
It is also intended that the course allows the development of skills that help in professional progression and innovation in areas that involve the use of biological and oceanographic information for the understanding, management and conservation of marine biodiversity and interactions with fisheries and global changes. This course thus aims to respond to the needs and gaps in experience identified by employers in these areas and in regions with which the University of Algarve has links, partnerships and research projects.
The established objectives focus on conservation measures and sustainable management of marine biodiversity exploitation activities, conservation, mitigation and restoration of threatened marine species and habitats, and integration of predictions of climate change effects and other environmental changes.
