Overview
There is currently a great demand for teachers in the 3rd cycle of basic education and secondary education in areas such as maths. This demand is particularly acute in the Algarve region, where the existing number of teachers with a professional qualification in maths teaching is clearly insufficient to meet current and future needs.

Objectives

The creation of a master's degree in Maths Teaching in the 3rd cycle of Basic Education and Secondary Education at the University of the Algarve will be a very important contribution to solving this problem. However, according to the requirements of Decree-Law 112/2023, candidates must have at least 120 ECTS in the scientific area of Maths. 

UAlg's degree in Maths Applied to Economics and Management (MAEG) has only 78 ECTS registered in the scientific area of Maths. However, other curricular units (compulsory and optional) may be credited if their content justifies it.

The existence of this postgraduate course will give MAEG graduates (from the University of the Algarve, the University of Évora or ISEG) the opportunity to acquire further training in the area of Mathematics and to apply for a master's degree in Mathematics Teaching. As it is a postgraduate programme, it allows final-year students to enter the programme, enabling students enrolled in MAEG to apply and be considered.

Operating Mode

The B-Learning teaching modality (with synchronous classes and the possibility of face-to-face assessment) and the evening teaching regime (6pm to 8.30pm, 6 weeks) also allows primary and/or secondary school teachers who want to acquire knowledge and credits for their training (for career progression) or for future entry to the Master's degree in Maths Teaching).

Tuition and Fees 2026/2027

National Students: 

first year curriculum: 450€

 

International Students*:  

first year curriculum: 900€

 

Application Fee: 50 Euros

Registration Fee and School Insurance: 150 Euros

Note: The tuition of this course can be paid in 10 installments, being the first at the time of registration and the remaining in the months of October, November, December, January, February, March, April, May and June.
