More than 1154 higher education institutions (HEIs) from 94 countries submitted information for this ranking.

In this third edition the ranking counts data for all 17 SDGs. Each goal has several specific metrics associated with it, which measure the impact of HEIs in achieving that SDG. Universities can submit data for as many SDGs as they wish, but to be included in the global ranking the requirements are to submit data for a minimum of 4 SDGs, and goal 17, which accounts for partnerships for the development of the goals, is mandatory.

The Rankings

UAlg was evaluated in 16 of the 17 SDGs, having obtained an overall rating of 79.2 out of 100. For this classification, three of the SDGs where UAlg obtained the best classification were taken into account. The Academy stood out in SDG 10 - Reducing Inequalities (72.4), being in position 79 out of 669 HEIs that presented evidence of contributions to this goal; SDG 15 - Protecting Earth Life (74.6), ranked 48 out of 402 HEIs, SDG 16 - Peace, justice and effective institutions (83.9), in position 16 out of 653 HEIs, and SDG 17 - Partnership for the implementation of the goals (65.7), ranking 201-300 out of 1154 HEIs.

In this ranking, which evaluates universities by the way they contribute to society, institutions are evaluated taking into account three indicators: research, which produces knowledge to help solve the world's problems; administration, which must manage resources well; and direct action, that is, the way the university acts in society.

Regarding the SDGs in which UAlg stood out, SDG 10 - Reducing Inequalities measures the research of HEIs on this theme, as well as its contribution to equal opportunities and social, economic and political inclusion of all. SDG 15 measures UAlg's contribution to the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems and freshwater and to combating desertification to sustainable ecosystem management, namely through its research and action. SDG 16 - Peace, Justice and Effective Institutions measures the HEIs' research on this topic, as well as their policies to ensure equal access to justice, to reduce all forms of violence and their commitment to promoting the rule of law, nationally and internationally.

The inclusion in this ranking and the results obtained are a great achievement for UAlg because it is recognized as a global pioneer, demonstrating its commitment not only to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals through teaching, research and knowledge transfer, but also to incorporating these goals in the main guidelines of the Institution.
