In this recently published edition, UAlg remained in the Top 100 of the Shanghai Ranking in the area of Hospitality & Tourism Management, which selected the 300 best institutions worldwide.

The Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects is considered one of the most prestigious rankings in the world, having evaluated in this edition over 5000 universities from 96 countries, in 54 scientific areas.

UAlg trains professionals who perform functions in the most prestigious companies in the Tourism industry on a global scale. With a vast experience in research and training in Tourism and Hotel Management, UAlg offers a wide range of courses, which, annually, form highly qualified professionals who perform functions in the most prestigious companies in the Tourism industry on a global scale.

At the research level, UAlg is home to the Centre for Research in Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being (Cin Turs), rated Very Good by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and hosts a branch of the Centre for Research, Development and Innovation in Tourism (CiTUR), rated Good by FCT.

Currently, in this area, UAlg offers a Professional Higher Technical Course (CTeSP) in Tourism Animation Management, two undergraduate degrees, Tourism and Hotel Management, and two master's degrees, Hospitality Management and Administration and Tourism, taught in Portuguese. In English, the Algarve Academy offers three master's degrees, Management (tourism branch), Tourism Organizations Management and Tourism Economics and Regional Development, and a PhD in Tourism, the first created in Portugal in 2007.

For the Rector Paulo Águas the maintenance of the position in the Top 100 is "a result of enormous significance, since on a global scale we have countries with investments in research and education incomparably higher than in Portugal. We are aware that our size does not help, which adds value to the work that the Academy has been developing.

Remember that the Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects is the oldest and one of the most prestigious rankings in the world and is based on indicators of scientific productivity and research quality, using different indicators collected from internationally recognized databases, such as the number of scientific articles published, the quality of scientific publications measured by the number of articles that fall into the category of most cited in the area under evaluation, the number of citations, articles published with international collaboration (internationalization index) and awards received.
