Engenharia Informática
Objetives
The aim of the Postgraduate Programme in Computer Engineering is to complement the solid and broad-based education acquired during a first-cycle degree in Computer Engineering, or an equivalent qualification, with advanced training in relevant areas of Computer Engineering Sciences.
The specific objectives of the Postgraduate Programme are:
- To strengthen the skills and professional profile of Computer Engineers, preparing them to enter and progress in the labour market.
- To provide training that facilitates access to a second-cycle degree in Computer Engineering.
Programme Structure
Classes take place every weekday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Postgraduate Programme consists of an organised set of curricular units structured around three priority areas: Intelligent Systems, Networks and Systems, and Software Science and Engineering. These areas allow students to specialise in the corresponding topics.
Students must complete a total of 36 ECTS from this set of curricular units, comprising 18 ECTS in the first semester and 18 ECTS in the second semester.
Competences
The general competence profile of the Postgraduate Programme in Computer Engineering is developed across three fundamental components: (i) Knowledge — theoretical knowledge; (ii) Practical Skills — technical and professional knowledge; (iii) Learning Skills — cognitive abilities.
The Postgraduate Programme promotes the development of students’ general competences in each of the areas listed above, namely by:
- Consolidating knowledge in Engineering Sciences and Computer Engineering Sciences;
- Developing the ability to synthesise and analyse data, conduct scientific and technological experiments, and solve problems through the appropriate use of available resources, particularly computing resources;
- Developing the ability to communicate data, ideas, problems and solutions, both orally and in writing, to different audiences, particularly specialist audiences in the field of computing;
- Fostering a sense of responsibility and professional ethics;
- Developing the ability to work as part of a team and adapt to technological change through continuous and autonomous learning.
Graduates of the Postgraduate Programme in Computer Engineering will be able to demonstrate specific competences in:
- Analysis, design and development of information systems;
- Analysis and development of distributed and parallel systems;
- Relevant programming paradigms and languages;
- Network security and cybersecurity;
- Design and management of computer networks, with a focus on the Internet of Things;
- Extraction of relevant information from large volumes of data;
- Design of intelligent systems for solving complex problems.
