Ana Matias (f) is an Auxiliar Researcher at CIMA - University of Algarve. She has a Geology Degree (1996), an MSc degree in Coastal and Marine Studies (2000), a PhD in Marine Geology (2006), and an MSc degree in Science Communication (2019). She devoted most of her academic career researching coastal geological processes, with participation in 22 projects that covered topics such as dune vulnerability, overwash, and coastal resilience. She coordinated RUSH and EVREST projects (FCT national funding) and was WP leader on BARDEX II project (EU funding). She published her findings in 2 book chapters and 54 papers (h=18, 927 citations, source: scopus), and presented her results in over 40 international conferences. Since 2017, A. Matias main research focus is Transdisciplinary Research on Geoscience, Art, and Communication. She coordinated the science & art projects 'The Sea Rolls the Sand' (2017, coastal science & dance), 'Embodying Memories' (2019, neuroscience & visual art), and Rescue|Search (2020, marine science & photography). She currently coordinates the science communication project 'CIDADÃO+', with two senior communities (in rural and urban areas), and the adaptation to Portugal of the animation series 'Coasts for Kids'. Besides undertaking a number of science communication activities, and publishing for non-specialized audiences in newspapers and magazines, she is publishing her research on science communication in scientific journals (Geoscience Communication, Journal of Science Communication) and presenting it in national (SciComPt2018, SciComPt2019, SciComPt2020) and international (Education and Outreach Sessions of EGU2018, PCST2020) conferences. She is on the direction board of SciComPt (Portuguese science communication network) and has been highly involved in the organization of its Annual Conference.
